Indian Exchanges Open for Diwali Muhurat Trading on October 20
20 Oct
Summary
- Indian stock markets open on October 20 despite Diwali holidays
- Muhurat trading session held on October 21 from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm
- Investors view Muhurat trading as auspicious for wealth creation

As of October 20, 2025, the Indian stock market will remain open on Monday, despite some states in the country celebrating Diwali Lakshmi Puja on this day, while others do so on October 21. Both the BSE and the NSE will have regular trading for the day.
However, on October 21, it is an official holiday for the exchanges, except for a special one-hour Muhurat trading session. This traditional ritual marks the beginning of the new Samvat year and is viewed by market participants as an auspicious start for wealth creation. Investors across India, from seasoned traders to first-time retail buyers, often participate in this short, festive window.
After Diwali, the markets will also remain closed on October 22 for Diwali Balipratipada. For the rest of 2025, two more holidays are scheduled - November 5 (Prakash Gurpurab) and December 25 (Christmas).
