Indian Seafarers Navigate Gulf Tensions Safely

Approximately 23,000 Indian seafarers are employed on merchant ships and offshore installations throughout the wider Gulf region. The Directorate General of Shipping has maintained continuous communication with these personnel via their recruitment and engagement agencies.
Within the Persian Gulf, west of the Strait of Hormuz, 24 Indian-flagged vessels are operating and carrying 677 Indian seafarers. East of the Strait, in the Gulf of Oman, the situation has slightly changed. Previously, four Indian-flagged vessels were in the area; however, one oil tanker, the Jag Prakash, departed yesterday. This leaves three Indian-flagged vessels currently in the Gulf of Oman, with a total of 76 Indian seafarers onboard.
