Rupee Surges 16 Paise Amidst Strong Equity Rally
29 Jul
Summary
- Indian rupee climbed 16 paise to 95.66 against the US dollar.
- Industrial production grew 7.3% in June, signaling economic strength.
- Domestic equity markets saw significant gains, boosting investor confidence.

The Indian rupee experienced a significant appreciation on Wednesday, rising by 16 paise to settle at 95.66 against the US dollar. This marks the fourth consecutive session of gains for the local currency. The rupee's ascent was supported by positive momentum in domestic equity markets and a decline in global crude oil prices, which remained below the $85 per barrel threshold. Data released on Wednesday indicated that India's industrial production surged by 7.3 percent in June. This represents the fastest growth in almost two years, significantly outperforming the 2.2 percent growth seen a year ago and the 5.1 percent recorded in May 2026. Further bolstering the rupee were substantial foreign capital inflows and a generally weaker US dollar. These factors coincided with anticipation surrounding the US Federal Reserve's upcoming interest rate decisions. The domestic stock markets reflected this optimism, with the BSE Sensex closing up by 888.68 points and the Nifty 50 gaining 264.85 points. The rupee touched an intraday high of 95.48 before concluding the trading session at 95.66.
