Investor Bets Big on IndiaMART Amidst Slowdown Fears
27 Jul
Summary
- Veteran investor Pulak Prasad increased his stake in IndiaMART to 7.71%.
- Market focuses on slowing paying supplier additions for IndiaMART.
- IndiaMART's premium subscribers generate over 75% of its revenue.

As of July 27, 2026, veteran investor Pulak Prasad, through Nalanda India Equity Fund, has boosted his stake in IndiaMART Intermesh to 7.71%. This move comes as the market increasingly scrutinizes IndiaMART, India's largest B2B online marketplace, due to a slowdown in paying supplier additions. Investors are questioning if the company is entering a phase of slower growth.
However, Prasad's increased investment suggests a potential overemphasis by the market on single metrics. IndiaMART's revenue model relies heavily on premium subscribers (Gold and Platinum), who constitute over 75% of its subscription revenue, demonstrating their disproportionate value compared to entry-level Silver customers.
Despite a sequential loss of approximately 1,850 paying suppliers in the June quarter, IndiaMART's financial statements show resilience. Revenue grew 11% year-on-year to ₹414 crore in Q1 FY27, with EBITDA up 10% and a healthy 35% margin. Operating cash flow also remained strong at ₹163 crore.
The company is strategically focusing on enhancing the value derived from existing customers, increasing its Annualised Revenue Per Paying Supplier (ARPS). Furthermore, Indiamart is exploring growth beyond its core marketplace through subsidiaries like Busy Infotech and the new Indiamart Finance Limited, aiming to build a broader ecosystem for small businesses.
While the market is concerned about potential impacts from AI on search behavior, IndiaMART is actively integrating AI to improve its platform. With a strong balance sheet, virtually no debt, and high returns on equity (20.7%) and capital employed (28%), Indiamart appears well-positioned to navigate future challenges and opportunities.
