Indian edtech startup Emversity has successfully raised $30 million in a Series A funding round led by Premji Invest, bolstering its mission to bridge the country's employability gap. The company focuses on training individuals for 'grey-collar' roles, such as nurses and hospitality staff, which require hands-on skills less susceptible to automation. Emversity collaborates with 23 universities and colleges, embedding employer-designed training modules into curricula to ensure graduates are job-ready.
Founded in 2023 by Vivek Sinha, formerly of Unacademy, Emversity addresses the critical mismatch between academic qualifications and industry demands in India. The startup partners with leading healthcare and hospitality firms to co-create role-specific training, facilitating placements for its learners. Emversity also operates skill centers affiliated with the National Skill Development Corporation, offering short-term certifications.
With this significant funding, Emversity plans to expand its reach to over 200 locations within two years, targeting new sectors like engineering and manufacturing. The startup's success is rooted in its employer-led curriculum design and hands-on training infrastructure, positioning it as a key player in upskilling India's workforce for future job markets.
