Mail Tossed on Tracks: India Post Probes Pratapgarh Incident
28 Nov
Summary
- Viral video showed postal bags carelessly thrown onto railway tracks.
- Investigation revealed staff pressure led to improper mail transport.
- Lack of a sloped footbridge contributed to unsafe handling practices.

A viral video captured postal bags and parcels being carelessly tossed onto railway tracks at Pratapgarh railway station, leading to swift action from India Post. The footage, recorded near Platform 3 shortly after the Punjab Mail's arrival, initiated a departmental investigation that verified the incident.
Senior officers conducted an on-site inspection and questioned the involved staff. The probe concluded that employees, allegedly rushing to meet dispatch deadlines, resorted to an improper method of transporting the mail. A significant contributing factor identified was the absence of a sloped footbridge connecting Platforms 2 and 3 to the railway mail service (RMS) office.
This lack of adequate infrastructure prevented the use of trolleys, forcing staff to resort to unsafe practices when handling high volumes of mail. India Post has since initiated disciplinary actions against those responsible and issued directives to prevent recurrence. A formal request has been sent to the railway authorities for necessary infrastructural upgrades to ensure smoother RMS operations.
