India Reaffirms Commitment to Bhutan's 13th Five-Year Plan

In a significant move, India has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Bhutan's 13th five-year-plan (2024-2029) during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to the country. The discussions between Modi and Bhutanese leaders, including former king Jigme Singye Wangchuck, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas such as energy, trade, technology, and connectivity.

One of the key highlights of the visit was the progress made on the Gelephu Mindfulness City project, which aligns with India's Act East Policy. The leaders also welcomed the understanding reached regarding the resumption of work on the 1,200 MW Punatsangchhu-I hydroelectric project, which will be the largest hydropower project jointly developed by the two countries.

India has already committed to providing Rs 10,000 crore for Bhutan's 13th five-year-plan, emphasizing New Delhi's commitment to actively assisting the neighboring country in achieving its development priorities and advancing sustainable growth across sectors. The Bhutanese side expressed appreciation for India's support and the two nations reaffirmed their close ties.
