India's personal computer market achieved a historic milestone in 2025, with annual shipments climbing to 15.9 million units, marking a robust 10.2% year-over-year growth. This performance surpassed previous records set during the peak demand of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The surge is largely attributed to a wave of device upgrades from individuals who purchased their first PCs during pandemic-induced lockdowns. As these devices aged, a strong demand for replacements emerged, expanding India's user base. Increased digitization and wider availability in smaller cities also contributed to this growth.
India's significance in the global PC landscape grew, with its share of worldwide shipments rising to 5.6% in 2025, up from 3.3% in 2020. While worldwide shipments saw an 8.1% increase, India emerged as a rapidly expanding market.
Commercial buyers represented 52.9% of shipments in 2025, influenced by a Windows refresh cycle and the replacement of older devices by businesses and public sector organizations. The consumer segment comprised the remaining 47.1% of the market.
Top vendors included HP, Lenovo, Dell, Acer, and Asus. Apple's Mac computers hold a smaller market share in India compared to global or U.S. figures, with MacBooks accounting for about 5.6% of India's notebook market. However, the premium notebook segment ($1,000+) grew by 8.2%, indicating sustained demand for higher-end devices.
Looking ahead, the market anticipates a potential 5% decline in shipments for 2026 due to rising prices and component shortages. Despite this, India's PC penetration remains relatively low at an estimated 17-20%, suggesting substantial future growth potential as digital adoption continues to spread.
