India Slams Chinese Imports with New Duties
22 Jun
Summary
- India imposed anti-dumping duties on a key chemical from China, EU, and US.
- Duties range from USD 75 to USD 1748 per tonne for five years.
- Additional duties extended on aluminium foil and polyethylene terephthalate.
India has imposed significant anti-dumping duties for a period of five years on imported 'Sulphenamides Accelerators'. This chemical is essential for the rubber and tyre manufacturing sectors. The duties target imports originating from China, the European Union, and the United States.
The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) recommended these duties after determining that the chemical was being exported at prices below its normal value in the Indian market. This dumping practice has resulted in material injury to India's domestic industry.
The imposed duties vary, falling between USD 75 per tonne and USD 1748 per tonne. This action is taken to ensure fair trading practices and create a level playing field for domestic producers against foreign competitors.
In separate notifications, India has also extended existing anti-dumping duties on 'Aluminium Foil' imports from China, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia until December 15. Furthermore, a USD 200.66 per tonne anti-dumping duty has been imposed for five years on 'Polyethylene Terephthalate resin' from China.
