EV Scooters Surge Past 2025 Sales in 2026

India's electric two-wheeler market has achieved a significant milestone in 2026, registering 1.44 million units by September, exceeding the 1.34 million units sold in all of 2025. This record growth is fueled by a wider selection of products, improving service networks, reduced ownership costs, and increasing fuel prices.

Greaves Electric Mobility, makers of Ampere scooters, has already sold 66,069 units in 2026, surpassing its entire 2025 sales. Similarly, River Mobility and Bgauss Auto have reported substantial sales increases. This trend is supported by a moderation in battery costs, aided by the government's PLI scheme for domestic cell manufacturing, which has reduced the price gap with imported cells.

Several smaller EV makers are also actively raising funds to expand their production capacities and strengthen operations. River Mobility recently secured $120 million, while Bgauss raised $11.6 million. Despite these advancements, established players like TVS Motor, Ather Energy, and Bajaj Auto continue to lead, holding 83% of the market volume, and are also expanding their production capabilities to meet rising demand.
