India-Canada Trade Talks Speed Up

India and Canada are advancing their Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations, with the next round of talks scheduled for October 5. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal indicated that the upcoming 90 days will be crucial for the Canada-India relationship. The fourth round of talks concluded recently on September 18, and both nations are committed to expediting the process to meet a year-end target for finalization.
Discussions are moving at an accelerated pace, with Minister Goyal planning to attend the fifth round of negotiations starting October 5. Canada's International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu recently met with Goyal in Mumbai. The bilateral trade between India and Canada reached USD 30.4 billion in 2025, and the objective is to double this figure to USD 70 billion by 2030.
In separate news, Goyal mentioned that the India-EU trade pact is expected to be ratified by the EU parliament within the next three months and could come into effect in approximately six to seven months. Regarding the India-Chile trade agreement, progress is being reviewed, with positive news anticipated in the coming months.
