India Auctions 19 Critical Mineral Blocks for Self-Reliance
22 Mar
Summary
- India launches its seventh auction for critical and strategic minerals.
- Nineteen mineral blocks will be offered across several states.
- The auction aims to boost self-reliance in clean energy and technology.

India is launching its seventh auction for critical and strategic mineral blocks on March 23, 2026. This significant move will offer 19 new blocks for mining lease and composite licence across several states. The initiative is designed to enhance India's self-sufficiency in key areas, including clean energy technologies, advanced manufacturing, and strategic sectors.
This auction is particularly important given the increasing global demand for minerals like lithium and rare earth elements, driven by the transition to clean energy. Their limited availability and concentrated sources pose risks to global supply chains. To date, India has successfully auctioned 46 critical and strategic mineral blocks through six previous rounds.
In related news, the Ministry of Mines will also host the National District Mineral Foundation Summit 2026 in New Delhi on Monday and Tuesday. The summit will focus on leveraging mineral resources for regional development and national progress.
