Hyundai has officially launched its new Bayon mid-size SUV in India, with ex-showroom prices beginning at Rs 10 lakh. This new model will occupy a space in Hyundai's lineup directly beneath the well-established Creta. Production of the Bayon is underway at Hyundai's Chennai manufacturing plant, with the vehicle set to be exported globally in both right-hand and left-hand drive configurations.
The Bayon is built on Hyundai's Global K enhanced platform, designed to meet stringent 5-star Indian crash test safety standards. Its exterior showcases Hyundai's 'Art of Steel' design language, featuring LED projector headlights, L-shaped DRLs, and a distinct side profile with flared wheel arches. The vehicle measures 4.2 meters in length, slightly shorter than the Creta.
Inside, the Bayon offers a digital cockpit with a 12.3-inch driver's display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It includes features like ventilated front seats, a Generative AI voice assistant, and Bluelink connected car technology. Safety is a key focus, with Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, and a 360-degree camera among its offerings.
Under the hood, the Bayon is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine producing 115hp and 144Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual or CVT transmission. A significant addition will be a CNG variant scheduled for January next year, making it Hyundai's first mid-size SUV with a CNG option in India. Turbo-petrol and diesel engine options are not available.
