Hospice Charity Store Closes Doors After Decade
19 Mar
Summary
- A hospice furniture store will cease trading at the end of April.
- Increased running costs and dwindling donations contributed to the closure.
- The store raised over £500,000 for the charity in 10 years.

Severn Hospice will close its 10-year-old furniture store on Ennerdale Road in Shrewsbury at the end of April. The charity stated that increased running costs and a decrease in donated items have made the store less viable.
Director of income generation Tracie Harrison explained that while the shop raised over £500,000, its contribution was diminishing. Changes in the trading estate's occupants led to reduced footfall, impacting the store's performance.
Harrison also noted that fewer items were being donated, and customers expected lower prices. The hospice aims to ensure its shops collectively generate over £1.5 million for its services while managing operational expenses effectively.
Staff and volunteers affected by the closure are being offered alternative roles. The last day for accepting furniture and electrical item donations will be March 19th.
