Seal Issue Sparks Horizon Organic Milk Recall
1 Sep
Summary
- Horizon Organic Dairy recalled over 53,000 cases of chocolate milk.
- A seal issue may cause premature spoilage and bloated packaging.
- No illnesses or hospitalizations have been reported related to the recall.

Horizon Organic Dairy has issued a voluntary recall for more than 53,000 cases of its 1% low-fat chocolate milk. The recall, which began in early August, stems from a packaging seal issue identified by the company. This defect can cause the product packaging to appear bloated and may lead to the milk spoiling earlier than expected.
The affected product is sold in 8-fluid-ounce cartons within red 12-count or 18-count boxes. While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had not yet classified the recall as of August 31, Horizon Organic Dairy has emphasized that the issue is not related to any contamination by allergens, microorganisms, or pathogens.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled chocolate milk are urged not to drink it. They should retain the packaging and contact Horizon Organic Dairy's customer relations department for information regarding refunds. The company has confirmed that no illnesses or hospitalizations have been reported in connection with this recall.
