Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has set an ambitious goal to achieve 6 million domestic sales units by the end of March 2027. This target represents a significant growth trajectory for the company, which currently holds approximately 25 percent of the Indian market share. In the first half of fiscal year 2027, HMSI's domestic dispatches saw a healthy 13.5 percent rise, reaching 3.04 million units.
To support this expansion, HMSI is set to increase its production capacity to 8 million units by 2028, up from its current 6.5 million units. This expansion will include two new production lines, accommodating both internal combustion engine and electric vehicle models. The company's strategy involves a multi-fuel approach, encompassing petrol, flex-fuel, and electric vehicles, rather than concentrating on a single powertrain.
Scooters currently account for about 60 percent of Honda's sales volume in India, aligning with a global trend of shifting towards scooter-type vehicles. While the company introduced electric scooters in early 2025, it acknowledges the evolving nature of the EV market and the challenges in predicting long-term value. Honda also recently unveiled a range of 10 new two-wheeler models, signaling a commitment to diverse product offerings.
