Caravan Chaos: Park Expansion Sparks Outrage

Despite significant opposition, plans for 11 new static caravans at Primrose Valley holiday park have been approved by North Yorkshire Council. The development, which also includes new access roads and parking, faced over 300 objections from residents and visitors concerned about antisocial behavior and an increase in seagulls. Yorkshire Water voiced opposition, stating that concerns regarding the on-site water main remained unaddressed.

Council officers acknowledged the objections but deemed the water main issue a civil matter between the developer and the water company. They concluded that the reduced scale of the development, down from an initial proposal of 29 caravans, was appropriate for the location and represented a valuable investment in the local tourism business.

The approval allows for the addition of new accommodation and partial removal of a play area. While objectors feared impacts on privacy, security, and traffic, the council emphasized that the land is private and internal to a commercial holiday park. The decision moves forward despite lingering concerns from the local community and utility providers.
