Helicopters to Lift River Power Lines
27 Jul
Summary
- Helicopters will install new wiring on power lines across the St. Johns River.
- The project aims to provide clearance for larger ships at JAXPORT.
- Drones are prohibited in the airspace during helicopter operations.

Helicopters will soon commence a significant phase of work to elevate electric transmission lines spanning the St. Johns River at Fulton Cut. Beginning July 27, JEA will utilize helicopters to assist contractors in installing new wiring and conducting related tasks on the lines connecting Blount Island to Reed Island.
These visible aerial operations are expected to continue intermittently throughout the year as the project progresses, with all activities contingent on weather conditions. A safety zone will be established at Fulton Cut, coordinated by the U.S. Coast Guard, during these helicopter activities. Mariners are advised to consult the U.S. Coast Guard for navigation requirements.
To ensure crew safety and prevent disruptions, drones will be prohibited from the airspace while helicopters are in operation. This project, a partnership between JEA, the City of Jacksonville, and JAXPORT, aims to create additional clearance for larger vessels accessing JAXPORT's Blount Island Marine Terminal, supporting international container trade growth and sustaining approximately 15,000 regional jobs.
