Harwich International station in north-east Essex has received a substantial upgrade following a £1 million investment in improvements. The extensive project, completed over four weekends in September, focused on enhancing both the infrastructure and the passenger environment at a station that serves over 100,000 journeys annually.
Key areas of enhancement included the replacement of roofing over the footbridge, staircases, and station entrance, alongside significant upgrades to the ceilings in these same locations. The entire station also benefited from a fresh coat of paint, contributing to a more modern and welcoming atmosphere for travellers.
Furthermore, new energy-efficient lighting has been installed throughout the station. Officials stated that these improvements will not only make the station brighter and more appealing but also contribute to reducing its overall carbon footprint. Passengers were thanked for their patience during the construction period.
