Hanoi has commenced construction on five major urban railway projects, representing a substantial investment of over VND1,315tn ($49.4bn). These initiatives are central to the city's strategy for expanding public transport and fostering sustainable urban development over the next decade.
The Hanoi People's Committee has formalized these plans, emphasizing the goal of creating a cohesive transport network to alleviate traffic issues and boost capacity. Metro Line No. 8 is set to be the most extensive, measuring approximately 91km and requiring an estimated VND437tn. Metro Line No. 1 is projected to be the second-largest investment, at nearly VND390tn for its 81km route.
Further plans include Metro Line No. 2, a 56.5km line with an estimated cost exceeding VND271.7tn, and Metro Line No. 10, a 43km route budgeted at over VND206.7tn. The fifth project, Metro Line No. 14, will run about 32km with an initial estimate of nearly VND154tn. A significant portion of these lines will be underground and integrated into transit-oriented development areas, with the entire network planned for completion by 2030.
