In a significant development, Hang Seng Indexes Company has announced the successful adoption of the first Generative AI (Gen-AI) use case in its index calculation process. This milestone marks the company's continued commitment to innovation and technological advancement.
The Gen-AI solution was co-developed through the Index Innovation Lab, a joint initiative established in 2024 between Hang Seng Bank and Cyberport, Hong Kong's digital tech hub. Hang Seng Indexes Company engaged with over 200 innovators from Cyberport's network to co-create practical solutions that enhance index operations. Collaborating with INF Hong Kong, a Cyberport community member, the company was able to integrate the Gen-AI capability into the Hang Seng Family of Indexes, including the Hang Seng Index, Hang Seng China Enterprises Index, and Hang Seng TECH Index.
The Gen-AI solution has been specifically applied to assist in the calculation of the free-float adjusted factor (FAF), which determines the percentage of publicly tradable shares of a listed company. This innovative approach has further improved the efficiency and accuracy of the index calculation process, reinforcing Hang Seng Indexes Company's role as a cornerstone of Hong Kong's financial market.
