Gurgaon Roadspace Reclaimed in Sector 46-51 Demolition Drive
26 Mar
Summary
- A 1.6km stretch between Sectors 46 and 51 was cleared of encroachments.
- Temporary shanties obstructing traffic and planned work were removed.
- A green belt and service road are planned for the reclaimed corridor.

In Gurgaon, the GMDA completed a significant two-day demolition drive, clearing a 1.6km section of the road dividing Sectors 46 and 51. This operation effectively removed encroachments, primarily temporary shanties, that had narrowed the carriageway and impeded traffic. The cleared stretch is a vital link to Sohna Road, frequently used by residents of Ardee City, Mayfield Garden, and Nirvana Country.
Officials stated that the removal of illegal structures was necessary to facilitate planned infrastructure work and routine maintenance. Following two prior notices, enforcement action was taken to reclaim public land. The GMDA has announced plans for a green belt and a service road along this corridor to enhance connectivity and reduce congestion.
This demolition drive is part of a broader initiative by the GMDA to reclaim and repurpose public land. Similar actions have previously taken place at Rajiv Chowk, Medicity Road, and in Sector 47's green belts. Authorities have affirmed their commitment to continuing such enforcement actions against illegal occupation and ensuring reclaimed land is used for planned development.
