Gujarat Pipavav Port is demonstrating resilience despite a 4% decline in container volumes during FY26, attributed to Middle East conflict disruptions. The company's business is undergoing a significant transformation, with vehicle exports via its Roll-on Roll-off operations surging 39% to 229,326 units in FY26. Dry bulk cargo also saw substantial growth, increasing 35% to nearly 3 million metric tonnes, driven by strong fertilizer imports.
Liquid cargo volumes grew 8%, contributing to a 17% rise in revenue to Rs 1,158 crore for FY26. Profitability saw an even more impressive jump, with operating profit margins expanding to 61.1% from 58.5%. The March quarter results further highlighted this momentum, with revenue up 26% and operating profit margins reaching 70%.
A major expansion is underway with a new liquid cargo jetty expected to be operational by December 2026. This project alone will add approximately 3.2 million metric tonnes of capacity, potentially increasing total liquid cargo capacity to nearly 5 million metric tonnes. The port is also enhancing its automobile export handling infrastructure, with a new staging area to increase capacity to 400,000-450,000 vehicles annually.
The company's financial health is a key strength, featuring a debt-to-equity ratio of just 0.02 and an interest coverage of nearly 99 times. Strong profitability has led to a Return on Capital Employed of 28% and Return on Equity of 21.2%. Despite these positive developments, investors are closely watching the container segment recovery and the upcoming concession agreement renewal scheduled for 2028.
