- Rs 1,570-crore ship repair facility to be built at Vadinar.
- Greenfield shipbuilding cluster planned for Porbandar district.
- Projects aim to significantly expand India's shipbuilding capacity.

Two significant maritime infrastructure projects in Gujarat have received in-principle approval from the shipping ministry, poised to bolster India's shipbuilding and repair capabilities. A Rs 1,570-crore ship repair facility is slated for construction at Vadinar in the Gulf of Kutch.
This facility will be jointly developed by Cochin Shipyard Ltd and Deendayal Port Authority. It will include a 650-metre jetty and two large floating dry docks, enabling domestic repair of vessels up to 300 metres in length.
Additionally, a greenfield shipbuilding cluster is planned for Porbandar district, spanning nearly 2,000 acres. This cluster aims for an annual production capacity of 1.2 to 1.5 million gross tonnage, positioning Gujarat as a key hub for heavy-tonnage vessel construction.
The shipbuilding cluster project is being developed by NSHIP-Gujarat, a special purpose vehicle promoted by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and the Gujarat Maritime Board. The Rs 1,570-crore ship repair facility received Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approval on May 5, 2026.
