Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) has entered into a significant memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), a subsidiary of Bharat Forge. This strategic alliance, formalized on March 5, 2026, is designed to foster the development and promotion of indigenous solutions for sophisticated naval systems and maritime technologies.
The collaboration seeks to bolster India's capabilities in the strategic maritime sector, targeting both national and international markets. The companies plan to concentrate their efforts on creating indigenous advancements in areas such as unmanned platforms, including unmanned surface vessels (USVs) and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs).
This partnership will encompass a broad range of maritime and defense systems. Specific focus areas include ship propulsion, mechanical systems for naval and commercial vessels, integrated platform management systems, steering and stabiliser assemblies, and deck equipment. Both GRSE and KSSL will jointly identify and pursue opportunities within India and select international markets.
The agreement merges GRSE's extensive shipbuilding and maritime engineering expertise with KSSL's proficiency in advanced defense platform design and manufacturing. This synergy is expected to significantly contribute to India's self-reliance initiative by advancing indigenization and technological collaboration within the defense and maritime industries.
