GPU Prices Soar: Asus & Gigabyte Hike Costs Up to 15%
20 Jan
Summary
- Graphics card prices may increase by up to 15% by end of January.
- NAND flash chip shortages are impacting memory availability.
- Price hikes are expected to be tied to VRAM capacity.

Graphics card prices are expected to increase by up to 15% by the end of January, according to reports from Taiwan. Board partners like Asus and Gigabyte are reportedly planning these hikes for their upcoming RX 9000 and RTX 50-series graphics cards.
This potential price adjustment is largely attributed to a severe shortage of NAND flash chips. The scarcity of these essential memory components is impacting a wide range of technology manufacturers, including global giants like Apple and Samsung.
The report suggests that the extent of the price increase will correlate with VRAM capacity. Graphics cards equipped with 16GB or more of VRAM could face the full 15% increase, whereas models with 8GB might see a more modest 10% rise.
While AMD and Nvidia have not directly announced price increases, their board partners are moving forward. This strategy may allow GPU manufacturers to maintain their recommended retail prices publicly, shifting the direct price hikes to their partners and potentially avoiding negative press.
Reports also indicate that some models, such as the 16GB RTX 5070 Ti and 5060 Ti, are facing discontinuation despite official pushback. The RTX 5070 Ti, with a $750 MSRP, is currently selling for over $1,000, and the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is listed above $700. Prices for many products, including GPUs, are projected to continue escalating throughout 2026, prompting recommendations to purchase sooner rather than later.
