Monsoon Exposes Poor Roadwork in Ghaziabad
9 Jul
Summary
- Under-construction roads disappeared under muddy floodwater.
- Residents faced difficult driving conditions and waterlogging.
- Mayor admitted work delays due to issues like bitumen shortage.

Road development projects under Ghaziabad's CM-GRID scheme have been significantly hampered by the monsoon, with under-construction roads disappearing under muddy floodwater. Stretches between Kala Patthar and Shaheed Capt Mangal Pandey Marg, as well as other trans-Hindon areas, are submerged or covered in slush, exacerbating driving conditions for residents. Residents report that conditions were worse now than before the upgrades began, with dug-up roads left in a quagmire after rain.
Progress on some key stretches has been minimal, with less than 1% completion reported on a 1.83-km section. Citizens are expressing frustration and considering legal action due to the poor execution of works, which has led to inconvenience and potential damage to vehicles. Similar issues plague other repair sites, including the crucial Dabur Chowk-Kaushambi Bus Stand road.
Mayor Sunita Dayal confirmed that projects are behind schedule, citing factors such as a shortage of bitumen. She stated that contractors and officials responsible for negligence have been warned about the delays and subpar work quality.
