Gas Prices Plunge Nationwide as Oil Production Rises
17 Oct
Summary
- Gas prices drop in nearly every U.S. state
- National average falls to $3.051 per gallon
- Some areas may see prices below $2 per gallon soon

As of October 18th, 2025, gas prices have been steadily declining across the United States. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the national average for a gallon of gas now stands at $3.051, providing much-needed relief for American drivers.
The White House has attributed this downward trend to record oil production under the current administration's leadership. Online gas tracker GasBuddy has confirmed the widespread declines, noting that prices have fallen in nearly every state.
Experts predict that some regions, such as Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin, may even see prices drop below $2 per gallon in the coming weeks. This would mark the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic that motorists have enjoyed such low fuel costs.
The most expensive gasoline markets remain California, Hawaii, and Washington, with averages of $4.64, $4.44, and $4.05 per gallon, respectively. In contrast, Oklahoma boasts the nation's lowest average at $2.63, closely followed by Arkansas and Texas at $2.56.
As the busy summer travel season comes to a close, industry analysts expect gas prices to continue their downward trajectory in the latter half of the year, providing further relief for American consumers.
