State-owned GAIL (India) Limited is significantly expanding its commitment to clean energy by announcing a Rs 3,800 crore investment to develop 700 MW of solar power capacity. This strategic move aims to advance the company's net-zero objectives and enhance its green energy portfolio.
The investment will fund a substantial 600 MW solar project complemented by a 550 MWh battery energy storage system in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. This facility is primarily intended to meet the captive power requirements of GAIL's petrochemical plant located in Pata, Uttar Pradesh.
Further bolstering its renewable energy infrastructure, GAIL will also establish a 100 MW solar project with a 22 MWh storage system in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. This project is designated to supply power to its PDH-PP plant in Raigad.
Upon completion, these projects are projected to elevate GAIL's total installed renewable energy capacity from its current 147 MW to over 1,000 MW. This expansion underscores GAIL's dedication to environmental responsibility while ensuring robust energy security and reinforcing its role in India's energy transition.
