FSSAI Shuts Down Two Food Firms for Major Hygiene Violations
1 Oct
Summary
- Chocolate maker and food firm suspended by FSSAI due to safety violations.
- Inspections revealed pest infestations, expired ingredients, and poor sanitation.
- Both companies were ordered to immediately cease all food business activities.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the operating licenses of TCF Chocolates and Shivam Agro, effective immediately. This decisive action follows inspections that revealed extensive food safety and hygiene breaches at their respective facilities.
TCF Chocolates faced suspension after a consumer complaint and subsequent inspection found multiple deficiencies. These included inadequate sanitation, pest infestation, expired food colors and flavors, improper chemical storage, and poor food handler hygiene. The company also failed to provide mandatory food safety records and had a very low compliance score from a prior inspection.
Similarly, Shivam Agro's license was suspended due to severe sanitation failures. Inspectors noted the presence of flies, garbage, stagnant sewage water, and rodent activity. Deficiencies extended to improper storage of food ingredients and non-food items, rusting equipment, and a non-functional in-house laboratory.
In both instances, FSSAI has mandated that the food business operators cease all activities during the suspension period. This measure underscores the authority's commitment to ensuring food safety standards across the industry.
