Ford Mustang Mach-E Recall: Power Loss Risk
7 Jul
Summary
- Over 48,000 Mustang Mach-E vehicles recalled due to overheating risk.
- Defect can cause vehicle to fail to start or lose power while driving.
- A software update is expected next month to fix the issue.

Ford is recalling nearly 49,000 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles in the United States because of a potential safety defect. The issue stems from battery high-voltage contactors that could overheat, potentially causing the vehicle to become immobile or lose power unexpectedly while driving. Ford has stated that an overheated contactor opening during operation increases the risk of an accident.
The recall affects model year 2021 and 2022 vehicles manufactured between May 2020 and May 2022. Ford has alerted dealers and advised them not to deliver affected vehicles until a software fix is available. The automaker plans to release an over-the-air software update next month, or owners can opt for an immediate fix at a dealership.
This recall impacts a significant portion of the Mustang Mach-E's production, highlighting challenges in Ford's electric vehicle rollout, which has seen substantial growth. Despite this setback, Ford has not issued a notice for owners to stop driving the affected vehicles.
