14 Sep
Summary
- Vista Equity Partners is exploring strategic options for Finastra.
- A potential sale could value Finastra at over $12 billion.
- Finastra provides software for global banks in payments and lending.
Private equity firm Vista Equity Partners is reportedly exploring strategic options for Finastra, a software company serving financial institutions. The process, currently in its early stages and guided by investment bankers at Morgan Stanley, could lead to a full sale of Finastra or a partial divestiture of Vista's stake.
Finastra has already attracted preliminary interest from other investment firms, including Blackstone. The financial software sector faces uncertainty regarding artificial intelligence's impact on business models. Despite this, Finastra is considered valuable, with potential valuations exceeding high-single-digit billions and reaching up to $12 billion.
This year, Finastra anticipates generating $650 million in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization. The London-headquartered firm provides essential software for payments, lending, and corporate banking operations to thousands of financial institutions worldwide, including over 80% of global top banks.
Since January 2025, under CEO Chris Walters, Finastra has undergone a significant transformation, divesting units like its treasury and capital markets business to Apax Partners in February and its universal banking business to Pollen Street Capital in June, to sharpen its focus on core payments and lending software.
