Farmers in Punjab are experiencing remarkable financial success by diversifying traditional jaggery production with a wide array of innovative flavors. Harpreet Singh, a 45-year-old farmer, has established a unit producing over 15 varieties, including chocolate, amla, and herbal infusions. This diversification has dramatically increased his daily earnings from ₹15,000 to approximately ₹50,000, with annual earnings nearing ₹1 crore during a six-month season. His success is attributed to technical guidance from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra for sugarcane quality assessment.
Karamjit Singh, from the same village, also produces around 20 jaggery varieties, including beetroot-infused options, and generates ₹7 lakh to ₹8 lakh monthly. Amrit Singh, a computer science graduate, has also found success with organic and flavored jaggery in Barnala, noting a significant difference in earnings compared to standard production. These farmers are not only catering to domestic markets across Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan but also exporting their products to the US and Canada, creating employment for over 50 people collectively.
