Eurozone Inflation Hits ECB Target: Stability Ahead?
7 Jan
Summary
- Eurozone annual inflation reached 2% in December, matching ECB's target.
- Services price inflation slowed, indicating dissipating key price pressures.
- ECB predicts inflation averaging 1.9% in 2026 and 2% in 2028.

Eurozone annual inflation has reached the European Central Bank's target of 2% for December, a figure that aligns with economists' predictions and signals a period of stable monetary policy. Consumer prices in the currency bloc saw a 2% increase compared to the previous year, a decrease from November's 2.1% rise. This moderation was partly due to a slower pace in services price inflation, indicating that significant price pressures within the economic area are beginning to dissipate. Looking ahead, the ECB anticipates inflation will average 1.9% in 2026, 2.1% in 2025, and hover just below 2% until it averages at 2% in 2028. These projections come even as the central bank recently revised its economic growth forecasts upward.
