Novo Nordisk Rebounds Amid Market Volatility
7 Feb
Summary
- European stocks ended higher despite automaker weakness.
- Novo Nordisk surged after recent significant losses.
- Stellantis shares dropped sharply due to overhaul charges.

European stocks concluded Friday's trading session on an upward trend, characterized by significant volatility. The Stoxx Europe 600 Index saw a 0.9% rise by the close, largely propelled by a notable recovery in Novo Nordisk A/S. This pharmaceutical giant experienced a substantial surge of 5.3%, clawing back some of the market value lost earlier in the week due to concerns surrounding a competing obesity pill.
Conversely, the automotive sector faced considerable headwinds. Stellantis NV experienced a dramatic 25% decline after disclosing approximately €22 billion ($25.9 billion) in charges tied to a broad strategic overhaul. This restructuring was necessitated by escalating costs and sluggish electric vehicle sales.
Other sectors contributing positively to the market included construction, energy, and banking. French firm Vinci SA, a standout in construction, saw its shares rally by 9.9% following strong earnings reports for 2025. In contrast, other individual stocks like Kongsberg Gruppen ASA also performed exceptionally, with shares soaring 16% on the back of robust results driven by its defense and aerospace divisions.
European equities have recently demonstrated resilience compared to their US counterparts, which have been impacted by a downturn in technology shares. Data from the week ending Wednesday indicated that European equity funds attracted $4.2 billion in inflows, the highest figure since April, suggesting renewed investor interest in the region.
