Etihad Resumes Flights After Near Week-Long Shutdown
6 Mar
Summary
- Etihad Airways plans to restart flights to about 70 destinations.
- Services will resume from Abu Dhabi starting March 6.
- A recent drone interception caused one death and several injuries.

Etihad Airways is preparing to resume operations after a complete shutdown lasting nearly a week. The airline announced plans to restart a limited commercial schedule from its Abu Dhabi hub starting March 6, with services planned for about 70 destinations across Europe, India, the United States, and West Asia. These flights remain subject to operational approvals and potential adjustments based on regional airspace conditions.
The restart follows a severe disruption to air travel in the region. On Sunday, an Iranian drone was intercepted over Abu Dhabi, resulting in one fatality and several injuries. This incident also caused damage to Dubai's main airport and affected airports in Kuwait and Bahrain. The United Arab Emirates is working to establish safe air corridors to manage increased air traffic.
Other major regional carriers like Emirates and Qatar Airways have also suspended commercial operations due to the ongoing regional threats. Emirates has since begun operating a scaled-back schedule following the partial reopening of safe airspace. Travelers at Abu Dhabi Airport were briefly escorted to shelters on Friday morning due to incoming missile alarms.
