Ether Surges: U.S. Treasury Move Sparks Crypto Rally
24 Aug
Summary
- Ether has recovered significantly after a near 70% value drop.
- A U.S. Treasury bond buyback plan boosted Ether's value.
- Technical indicators suggest a potential pause before further gains.

Ether, the second-largest cryptocurrency, has experienced a significant rally, recovering from a nearly 70% value decrease over the past year. This turnaround was primarily triggered by a surprise U.S. Treasury announcement regarding a bond buyback plan, which broadly weakened the U.S. dollar. As a result, Ether has effectively reversed its losses since April's monthly high.
Despite the strong upward momentum, which saw Ether climb 31% this week from its lowest point to its peak, analysts suggest a pause is likely. The cryptocurrency is currently facing resistance near its April monthly high of $2,464.54. This hesitation indicates a potential consolidation phase, with prices expected to trade within the $2,200-$2,450 range as the market digests the recent surge.
Further supporting this cautious outlook, momentum readings, such as the daily Relative Strength Index, are in overbought territory. This suggests Ether may be entering a distribution phase, where initial buyers take profits. However, if Ether breaks through the April high resistance, potential targets include the $2,775-$2,825 zone, followed by $3,040-$3,070, and potentially reaching $3,400-$3,450. A drop below $2,200 would challenge the current bullish sentiment.
