Epic Games Rejects Apple's Settlement Talk Order
18 Aug
Summary
- Epic Games has responded to Apple's request for mandatory settlement talks.
- Apple proposed a 15% commission for alternative in-app purchase systems.
- Epic Games states settlement talks would not meaningfully advance the case now.

Epic Games has formally responded to Apple's plea for court-ordered settlement discussions concerning the protracted App Store litigation. Apple had requested a settlement conference, suggesting that confidential talks could lead to a practical resolution and avoid further legal proceedings.
Apple's proposal included a commission of up to 15% on in-app purchases conducted via external payment methods within the United States. This move came alongside Apple's motion to compel settlement negotiations.
However, Epic Games stated that while they are willing to engage with serious settlement offers that promote developer competition, they do not foresee a court-mandated conference meaningfully progressing the situation currently. Epic indicated they would participate in good faith if the court mandates the conference.
The decision on whether to proceed with settlement talks now rests with Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers. Apple has suggested that Magistrate Judge Joseph C. Spero oversee these potential discussions.
