EPFO Portal Upgrade: UAN Activation Moves to UMANG App
4 Jul
Summary
- UAN activation and new generation now require the UMANG app.
- Face authentication via UMANG app is mandatory for UAN services.
- EPFO's Unified Member Portal has been upgraded with new features.

The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has successfully restored its Unified Member Portal following a significant upgrade. This enhanced portal features a redesigned interface and crucial service modifications aimed at improving efficiency and security for millions of members nationwide.
A notable change affects Universal Account Number (UAN) activation. Members can no longer activate their UAN directly via the EPFO portal. Instead, activation and new UAN generation now exclusively utilize the UMANG app, requiring Aadhaar-based Face Authentication (FAT).
Users must download the UMANG app, navigate to EPFO Services, and select UAN Activation or UAN Allotment and Activation. This move positions the UMANG app as the primary gateway for these essential PF services.
Additionally, the upgraded portal simplifies UAN retrieval. Members can recover a forgotten UAN by providing their registered mobile number, uploading identity proof, and verifying an OTP. Claim services, including death and pension claims, remain active on the portal, with specific document requirements and upload limitations noted.
