EPFO Caps Mandatory PF at Rs 1,800 Monthly
3 Jul
Summary
- Mandatory employee PF contribution capped at Rs 1,800 monthly.
- Contributions are based on wages up to Rs 15,000.
- Additional PF contributions are now entirely voluntary.

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has officially notified the Employees' Provident Funds Scheme, 2026, introducing significant changes to provident fund contributions. Under these new regulations, the mandatory employee contribution towards provident fund is capped at Rs 1,800 per month.
This cap is determined by a statutory wage ceiling of Rs 15,000 per month, with employees required to contribute 12% of this amount. Consequently, the maximum mandatory monthly PF contribution stands at Rs 1,800, irrespective of an employee's actual earnings above this threshold. Any contributions exceeding this fixed amount are now designated as voluntary, offering employees greater control over their savings.
This strategic revision by the EPFO aims to streamline contribution processes and provide enhanced flexibility for its members. The new scheme, notified on Wednesday, ensures a predictable and manageable contribution for all employees falling under its purview.
