The cross-Channel ferry Barfleur has sailed its final route from Poole in Dorset to Cherbourg, France. This marks the end of a service that operated for over three decades. The ferry's departure was witnessed by numerous onlookers braving wet weather.
Brittany Ferries announced earlier this year the sale of the Barfleur and the cessation of the route due to a substantial drop in passenger and freight numbers. Since 2002, passenger figures have decreased by 70%, from 547,000 to 165,000 in 2025. Freight volumes also experienced a sharp decline of 94% during the same timeframe.
