Egypt Rushes LNG Imports as Israel Halts Gas Flow
1 Mar
Summary
- Egypt is expediting LNG shipments due to halted Israeli gas supplies.
- Israel temporarily shut down some natural gas reservoirs as a security measure.
- Egypt secured additional LNG quantities for extended periods in 2025.

Egypt is expediting liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo imports as energy supplier Israel has halted its gas exports. This development follows Israel's decision to temporarily shut down some natural gas reservoirs as a security measure following its strikes on Iran.
Israeli gas supplies to Egypt have ceased entirely. To compensate for the shortfall, Egypt is accelerating LNG shipments it contracted for in 2025. This proactive step ensures energy supplies for the local market, including natural gas and petroleum products.
These measures mirror actions taken previously when Iran retaliated against Israeli attacks. In June of the previous year, Israel shut down its largest gas field, Leviathan, and Karish, disrupting supplies to Egypt. Egypt previously secured additional LNG quantities in 2025 for extended periods to meet local energy demands.
