Edible Oil Firms Face Wrath Over Missing Data
15 Jan
Summary
- Edible oil companies received show-cause notices for not submitting production data.
- The VOPPA Order, 2025, mandates monthly reporting of production and stock data.
- This oversight aims to ensure transparency in the vital edible oil sector.

The Department of Food and Public Distribution has issued stern show-cause notices to prominent edible oil companies for their failure to submit essential monthly production data as required by the VOPPA Order, 2025. Despite prior reminders, these companies have contravened the order, which is based on the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. This action underscores the government's commitment to enhancing oversight within the critical edible oil sector.
To maintain a real-time understanding of edible oil availability, production, and import dynamics, the food ministry had previously amended the VOPPA order. This framework mandates the registration of edible oil units and the regular declaration of their stock levels. Consequently, all cooking oil units failing to register or submit these mandatory returns will face similar notices, ensuring sector-wide adherence to regulations.
