Easter Rail Chaos: Major Line Shut Down
6 Mar
Summary
- No trains run between London Euston and Milton Keynes for six days.
- Work is part of a £400m project to improve line reliability.
- Other rail networks face over 270 upgrade projects during Easter.

Travellers planning journeys over the upcoming Easter period should prepare for significant disruptions on Britain's busiest intercity line. From Good Friday, April 3rd, through Wednesday, April 8th, there will be no mainline train services operating between London Euston and Milton Keynes.
Network Rail is undertaking essential engineering work as part of a substantial £400 million investment aimed at enhancing the reliability of the west coast mainline. Specific tasks include laying new track at Willesden and conducting repairs and upgrades at Harrow and Wealdstone station. Additionally, a bridge in Ledburn, Buckinghamshire, will receive protective enhancements.
While the main line closure affects services between London and Milton Keynes, further disruptions are scheduled. On April 4th and 5th, there will be no service between Preston and Lancaster. Anglo-Scottish services will be rerouted via Dumfries and Kilmarnock between Good Friday and Easter Monday. Passengers are advised to check travel plans before their journeys.
This extensive engineering program over the Easter break is deemed vital by Network Rail. Jake Kelly, the body's regional director, highlighted that bank holidays offer valuable opportunities to complete projects that are unfeasible during normal weekends. He emphasized efforts to minimize network closures while carrying out necessary upgrades.
