Construction of Dubai's Al Khaleej Street Tunnel has advanced to 80% completion, with the remaining structural work and infrastructure installation progressing rapidly. The 1,650-meter tunnel, designed to accommodate up to 12,000 vehicles per hour, is on track for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026. This critical infrastructure project is a key component of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project.
The project involves extensive efforts, including continuous excavation and the construction of retaining walls. Concurrent activities encompass tunnel wall cladding, road surfacing, and the installation of essential systems like lighting, traffic signals, and drainage. Notably, the tunnel will feature an artistic mural by Emirati artist Maryam Hathboor, celebrating Dubai's skyline.
Officials anticipate that the Al Khaleej Street Tunnel, upon its full completion, will significantly reduce travel times. Projections indicate that by 2030, journey durations on this corridor are expected to decrease from 104 minutes to a mere 16 minutes, serving approximately one million people.
