Doximity Stock Surges on AI Hype, Then Pulls Back
14 Aug
Summary
- Doximity stock surged over 100% on AI Search claims before significant pullback.
- Fiscal Q1 revenue rose 7%, but net income dropped 54% year-over-year.
- Full-year revenue guidance saw a slight increase, signaling slower growth.
- Company reported no AI Search revenue in Q1 despite bullish claims.

On August 7, Doximity, Inc. (NYSE:DOCS) saw its stock price more than double in overnight trading following its fiscal first-quarter earnings report. CEO Jeffrey Tangney highlighted the company's AI Search product, claiming it generated over ten times its operating cost. This announcement initially drove significant investor interest.
However, by the end of the trading session, the stock had surrendered most of its gains, closing up 32.6% at $27.40. Despite solid Q1 revenue of $156.6 million, a 7% year-over-year increase, profitability declined sharply. Net income fell 54% to $24.3 million, and adjusted EBITDA decreased by approximately 6%.
Management slightly improved full-year fiscal 2027 revenue expectations to $671-$681 million, representing a 5% growth, a notable decrease from the previous year's 13% rise. The second-quarter guidance indicated only a 1% year-over-year increase. Analysts noted that the revised outlook did not fully reflect the AI Search opportunity, especially since the company earned no AI Search revenue in Q1.
Despite these challenges, Doximity's enterprise business showed strength with 112% net revenue retention among its top clients. The company's AI Search product, if its early economics are sustained, presents a long-term monetization potential, and some analysts believe the stock remains undervalued.
