Dixon-Vivo JV: Govt Greenlights Smartphone Manufacturing

Dixon Technologies (India) experienced a significant stock surge of 4.78%, reaching Rs 12,820, amid reports of impending government approval for its proposed joint venture with Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo. An inter-ministerial panel has reportedly given in-principle approval, with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) expected to provide final clearance after the necessary processes are completed.

This collaborative venture is set to concentrate on the manufacturing of smartphones and other electronic devices within India. Speculation suggests that Vivo's current manufacturing facility located in Noida could be incorporated into this joint venture. This move would bolster Vivo's domestic production capabilities and enhance Dixon's standing in the competitive electronics manufacturing services (EMS) sector.

Reports indicate that the joint venture could handle a portion of Vivo's extensive smartphone production needs in India and may also engage in contract manufacturing for other electronics brands. This development is projected to significantly boost Dixon's capacity, potentially adding 20-22 million units annually to its output over time.

Financially, Dixon Technologies reported a consolidated net profit decline of 35.91% to Rs 297.97 crore in Q4 FY26, despite a 2.12% increase in revenue from operations to Rs 10,510.51 crore compared to Q4 FY25. The company's Q4 FY26 performance showed mixed results across its divisions: Mobile & Other EMS revenue grew 4.21% YoY, Home Appliances saw an 8.94% increase, and the Consumer Electronics & Appliances division grew by 1.16% YoY.
