Diwali Bank Holidays Vary Across Indian States in 2025

As the festive week of Diwali approaches in October 2025, banks across several Indian states will be observing a string of holidays. However, due to regional variations, while most states will observe Diwali on Monday, October 20, some regions will celebrate a day later, on Tuesday, October 21.
This has led to a complex patchwork of bank holidays across the country. The majority of states, including Tripura, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Delhi, will have bank holidays on October 20 for Diwali, Naraka Chaturdashi, and Kali Puja. Meanwhile, banks in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha will remain closed on October 21 for Diwali Amavasya, Deepawali, and Govardhan Pooja.
Some states, like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, will even have extended 2-day bank holidays from October 22 to 23 for additional festivals like Vikram Samvat New Year and Balipadyami. Sikkim stands out with the longest 4-day bank holiday from October 20 to 23.
