As the festival of lights approaches, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have released the trading schedule for Diwali 2025, including multiple festive closures and the much-anticipated Muhurat Trading session.
This year, the Diwali celebrations will span a series of stock market holidays, beginning with Dhanteras on Saturday, October 18, 2025. The markets will remain closed on October 18 and 19, with regular trading resuming on October 20.
On Tuesday, October 21, the markets will remain shut for Diwali - Laxmi Pujan, but will open briefly for the Muhurat Trading session, a symbolic and auspicious event marking the start of Vikram Samvat 2082, the Hindu New Year. Notably, the Muhurat Trading session will be held with revised afternoon hours, marking a departure from the traditional evening schedule.
The Diwali week concludes with another full-day market closure on Wednesday, October 22, for Balipratipada, a significant day in the Diwali festivities. All major exchanges, including the NSE, BSE, and Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX), will remain closed.
Muhurat Trading is considered highly auspicious and is symbolic of a fresh beginning for traders and investors. Traditionally, many choose this moment to make token investments as a sign of prosperity and good fortune in the coming financial year.
