Derby Voters to Decide on $6.5M Capital Needs Referendum

On November 4, 2025, voters in Derby will be asked to approve a $6.5 million capital needs referendum. One of the major items on the ballot is a $400,000 replacement of the HVAC system at the Derby Public Library.
The library has scheduled an open house on October 8 for the public to learn more about the library's needs and the upcoming referendum. According to the library's Facebook post, the HVAC system is in "dire need of an upgrade/replacement" in order for the library to continue providing quality service to the community.
In addition to the library's HVAC system, the referendum also includes funding for two new fire department pumper trucks ($3 million), a rescue truck for the Storm Engine Co. ($1.5 million), two public works trucks ($560,000), and a replacement of the public safety radio system ($550,000). The ballot measure also includes a $358,000 allocation to replace a chiller at Derby Middle School and a $132,000 contingency.
